CEHv13 Module 17: Hacking Mobile Platforms (Android Lab)

Known Behaviors – CEHv13

Module 17: Hacking Mobile Platforms (Android Lab)

The following behaviors have been observed during normal operation of CEHv13 – Module 17: Hacking Mobile Platforms. These behaviors are expected within the virtual lab environment and do not indicate lab failure.

Android VM Display Behavior

  • When switching to the Android virtual machine, the screen may initially appear blank or asleep.
  • This is expected while the Android environment finishes loading.
  • If the screen does not refresh automatically, users may need to wait briefly or reselect the Android machine from the lab interface to continue.

Application Launch Delays

  • Certain Android applications (e.g., Calculator) may take additional time to launch after being invoked.
  • If an application does not open immediately, users should wait 1–2 minutes before retrying the command.
  • Re-running the same command does not negatively affect lab progress.

Listing Installed Packages

  • When listing installed Android packages, output may appear paused, delayed, or truncated.
  • Re-running the same step to refresh the output is acceptable and does not impact learning outcomes.

Screenshot Save Prompts

  • During screenshot capture, the tool may skip the manual file-path prompt described in the learning guide and proceed directly to a confirmation or open-file prompt.
  • This behavior is expected; users may proceed as instructed when prompted.

Chrome Browser Prompts

  • While opening links in the Android browser (Chrome), users may encounter:
    • A “Chrome isn’t responding” dialog
    • A privacy or consent prompt (e.g., “Do Not Process My Personal Information”)
  • These prompts are expected. Users should follow the on-screen options to continue.

Important Notes

  • These behaviors are environment-related timing and UI conditions, not content errors.
  • No data loss occurs, and students do not need to restart the lab unless explicitly instructed.
  • If the lab becomes fully unresponsive and does not recover after waiting several minutes, users may contact support with screenshots and step details.
