Entering Text in Linux-Based VMs (Auto-Type Not Supported)
Applies to: All EC-Council labs using Linux-based virtual machines (VMs), including Parrot Security.
Last Updated: August 11, 2025
Summary
In Linux-based labs (including Parrot Security), the Auto-Type feature in Skillable Labs is not supported. The Auto-Type option has been removed from instructions in these labs to avoid confusion.
Learners must manually enter any required text, commands, or code.
How to Enter Text
You can enter text using one of these methods:
Option 1: Manually Type the Text
Type the text exactly as shown in the lab instructions into the VM.
Option 2: Copy from the Local Lab Manual
- In the VM, go to the Desktop.
- Open the Lab Manuals folder.
- Open the lab manual for your current module.
- Locate the step containing the text.
- Copy the text from the lab manual and paste it into the VM.
Tip: Because the lab manual is stored locally in the VM, this method does not rely on Skillable’s platform copy/paste or Auto-Type features.
If Your Lab Uses External Websites
Some tasks may require visiting external websites (e.g., search engines, tools, or online platforms). These sites may show pop-ups such as login requests or upgrade prompts.
- You can close these pop-ups to proceed without signing in or enabling extra features.
Additional Notes
- Review the instructions at the start of each module for important usage notes.
- If both manual typing and local copy/paste are unavailable, contact your instructor or support for assistance.
