I am an active ChatGPT-4 subscriber and have the ability to generate API keys.  Could you please clarify whether I need to purchase additional credits, despite my existing ChatGPT-4 subscription, to use OpenAI keys and activate Parrot?

Answer:

No. The CEHv13 labs no longer require you to use your personal OpenAI API key or purchase additional credits.

Instead, all students now receive a pre-generated AI activation key directly from their EC-Council learning platform (e.g., ASPEN, iClass, or ECL). This key is already configured for use with the CEHv13 lab environment and is compatible with the bash sgpt.sh setup in the Parrot Security VM.

Please refer to Module 00 - CEH Lab Setup within the lab environment for step-by-step instructions on retrieving and using your activation key.

Question: I'm running into errors

I have encountered difficulties configuring Shell GPT (sgpt) within the Parrot virtual machine.

Answer:

If you encounter issues using ShellGPT in the CEHv13 Parrot Security VM, please follow these updated troubleshooting steps:

1. Ensure You Used the bash sgpt.sh Command:
   All CEHv13 labs now use a wrapper script (bash sgpt.sh) to configure ShellGPT. Do not use sgpt directly unless instructed.

2. Verify Your AI Activation Key:
   You must use the AI Activation Key provided via your EC-Council learning platform (e.g., ASPEN, iClass, ECL).

   • Refer to Module 00 - CEH Lab Setup or the PDF guide in the lab interface for step-by-step key retrieval and transfer instructions.

3. Check for Key Entry Errors:
   When prompted, carefully paste your activation key with no extra spaces or missing characters.

4. Connection Issues:
   Ensure your Parrot VM has internet access. If the lab was idle for too long or the session expired, a refresh or relaunch may be required.

5. Persistent Errors?
   If errors continue after confirming the above steps, reach out to your instructor or support with screenshots and a description of the issue.

⚠️ Note: You no longer need to create an OpenAI account or purchase credits to use ShellGPT in CEHv13 labs. All required keys are provided by EC-Council.

Or, do I need to build my own lab environment?

For security purposes, are we required to install and run these labs on our own virtual machines (home lab), or is using the remote EC-Council virtual environment alone sufficient to ensure the security of our physical machines?

Answer:

The EC-Council lab platform is designed to be secure and isolated from your physical machine. This setup minimizes the risk of any potential security threats affecting your personal system. It eliminates the need to configure and manage virtual machines on your own hardware, which can be time-consuming, expensive and complex. Using the platform ensures that all students have a uniform environment, reducing the variability that can come from different hardware and software configurations.

Using the EC-Council virtual environment is sufficient and recommended for most users. It provides a secure, controlled, and consistent learning experience.

Answer:

There are no additional costs for using ShellGPT in CEHv13 labs.

All required AI Activation Keys are pre-provided through EC-Council's learning platforms (ASPEN, iClass, or EC-Council Learning). Students do not need to create an OpenAI account, purchase credits, or provide payment information.

These activation keys work seamlessly with the lab-integrated ShellGPT wrapper script (bash sgpt.sh) within the Parrot Security virtual machine.

Question: Do I need to set up an OpenAI account each time?

Answer:

No, you do not need to create an OpenAI account or generate your own API key.

All CEHv13 students receive a pre-generated AI Activation Key through EC-Council's learning platforms (e.g., ASPEN, iClass, or ECL).

However, because the lab environment resets each time a new lab is launched, you will need to re-enter your AI Activation Key into the Parrot Security virtual machine at the start of each lab that uses ShellGPT.

You can retrieve your key at any time by following the instructions in Module 00 - CEH Lab Setup or in the lab’s provided PDF guide.
