🗒️Linux Based Machines: At this time, users cannot copy from their local machine and paste into the lab environment. This affects the Type Clipboard Text and Type Password features.
Unfortunately, this is a limitation of Hyper-V that isn't compatible with Linux machines- so any text in Linux lab manuals will have to be manually typed-out. We apologize for this inconvenience.
Windows Based Machines
Users have the ability to copy text from their host machine and paste that text into the Cyber Range VM. This option is available on the Title Bar (see screenshot).
- Click the TypeText (keyboard) icon once, located in the Title Bar to view the drop-down menu.
- The drop-down menu appears. Hover the mouse over Type Text to view the submenu.
- Click Type Clipboard Text to view the text field.
The Type Clipboard Text prompt will appear (see screenshot). Paste your text into the field and click OK. ⚠️Make sure the curser in the VM is placed in the correct area before clicking OK.
Notes:
- Users cannot copy & paste into Linux based machines. This feature may be available in the near future. Workarounds are available 🖱️here
- Users cannot copy text from the VM and paste into the local host machine. For example, users cannot copy text from the lab environment and then paste that text into the answer fields.
Workaround (Linux Machines)
Workaround 1
Use this process if there are items that need to be copied from the lab guide. For those specific labs, lab guides are accessible in the Lab Manuals folder located on the Desktop.
Workaround 2
Use this process if you need to copy & paste text between the VM and your local machine. Text can be sent in both directions ↔️
⚠️This is a free service. As a result, there are many ads and pop-ups. Simply ignore or close any prompt that appears during use.
- Open the URL below on your local machine and in the Cyber Range.
https://online-clipboard.online - From the local machine, paste the text into the field labeled Send to Online Clipboard
- Click button Send above text to Online Clipboard to obtain the ID #
- From the VM side, enter the ID # in the field labeled Retrieve from Online Clipboard and then click Retrieve.
- The text will appear in the Retrieve from Online Clipboard field below.
- This process works in both directions.
